French Onion Potatoes

These French Onion Potatoes have been a staple side dish to any dinner. But instead of the usual use of packet soup for flavor, this recipe uses fresh ingredients that taste even better!

Layers of potatoes, onions and cheese- brought together by a flavorful creamy sauce. These potatoes go great with anything!

Ingredients to Make French Onion Potatoes:

  • potatoes
  • butter
  • onions
  • garlic
  • dried thyme
  • red wine
  • heavy cream
  • mozzarella cheese
  • salt and pepper

How to Make French Onion Potatoes:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Wash then thinly sliced the potatoes. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the onions in the butter until they are caramelized, about five minutes.
  3. Add the garlic, thyme and red wine to the onions and cook until the wine has completely reduced. Next up, splash the cream in there and let it heat up. Add salt & pepper to taste.
  4. In an 8×8 baking dish and start layering the potatoes, onions and mozzarella. When you have all the potatoes in the dish, scoop the remaining onions and cream sauce on top.
  5. Finish it off with a sprinkle of cheese on top and slide it into the oven for 45 minutes at 375º covered with tin foil and then remove the foil and broil for about 5 minutes – until it’s golden and bubbly.

  • 1 pound russet potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Wash then thinly sliced the potatoes. Set aside.
