We’ve eaten at Spur (a very popular South African chain restaurant that I’ve mentioned in my Almond Crumbed Mushrooms post) so many times throughout my life that I almost feel nostalgic about some of their menu items. One of them being their Buffalo Wings, our very favorite!
So, this brings us to today’s post and recipe: our very own Chirpy-approved Spur Copycat Grilled Buffalo Wings.
Zellie and I have been back in South Africa for more than a week now, and even though it feels kinda strange, I’m really happy to be back again. I get to see my family and my dogs and I can pay my favorite local restaurants a visit again! We went to Spur on our very first evening back lol!
Surprisingly, I didn’t eat the Buffalo Wings. I rarely eat beef when I’m in the US, so naturally I was craving a big juicy piece of medium-rare fillet, and that’s exactly what I ordered! I’ll most likely be back at Spur before long to get my Buffalo Wing fix as well.
Since we’re back in our home country and eating at our favorite restaurant chain again, it makes sense to finally share our copycat version of this recipe. We originally recreated Spur’s Buffalo Wings to be able to still enjoy this awesome meal while in the US. I think I did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself. A homemade version of a restaurant meal always feels way more special to me and it usually tastes even yummier if you’ve put the elbow grease into it.
What makes these wings much nicer than sitting down at Spur, though, is the fact that the whole family can sit around the barbecue (or braai as we call it in South Africa) and enjoy each other’s company while they cook. This makes it absolutely perfect for a chilled weekend evening.
It’s really quick to prepare, and the wings cook relatively fast (unless you have a small charcoal grill like we do and it starts raining just as you set everything up). We made it happen though and it was totally worth it! I’m in love with Spur’s Buffalo Wings and I’m even more in love with our fresh homemade version of it!
