Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they release their moisture and start to brown.
Add the minced garlic, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
Pour in the white wine and stir, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Simmer for 4-5 minutes, or until the wine has reduced and the mushrooms are tender.
Taste and adjust the salt or pepper if needed before serving warm.

Notes
Do not overcrowd the pan:
Mushrooms release moisture as they cook, so use a large skillet to help them brown instead of steam.
Let the mushrooms cook before adding garlic:
Garlic can burn quickly, so add it after the mushrooms have softened and started to brown.
Use dry white wine:
A dry white wine works best because it adds flavor without making the mushrooms taste sweet.
Cook off the wine:
Let the wine simmer until it reduces so the sauce becomes more concentrated and buttery.
Serve right away:
These mushrooms are best warm, while the garlic butter sauce is still glossy and the mushrooms are tender.
