Pizza Casserole

This Pizza Casserole is an easy way to enjoy all taste of pizza without the hassle and carbs of the dough. Featuring cheese, black olives, green peppers, pepperoni, ground sausage and mushrooms, this is a simple solution for pizza night that is a lot healthier for your family (and your wallet) without compromising any of the taste!

Pizza Casserole is a great dish for any day of the week. It is so easy to throw together on a weekday and you can make a large enough batch for the next day too. Make it for a fun Friday night dinner and stretch it into Saturday with your leftovers.

The best part of this Pizza Casserole, as with most pizzas, is that it is very customizable. You can add or remove the toppings as you please. It’s also super convenient in that you can pre-assemble and bake it the next day.

Ingredients to Make Pizza Casserole:

  • diced tomatoes
  • ground sausage
  • italian seasoning
  • mozzarella cheese
  • pepperoni
  • mushrooms
  • black olives
  • green pepper

How to Make Pizza Casserole:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray or a light coat of olive oil and set aside.
  2. In a medium skillet, brown the ground sausage and sprinkle with the italian seasoning.
  3. While the sausage is cooking, drain the canned tomatoes then pour into the baking dish in an even layer. Pat dry with a paper towel if there’s still too much liquid.
  4. When the sausage is cooked through drain the grease if there is any then spread in an even layer over the tomatoes. Cover with mozzarella cheese then the desired toppings.
  5. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.

Notes & Tips:

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. You can reheat in a covered baking dish in the oven at 350 for 20 minutes. 
  • Freeze leftovers in an airtight freezer ziplock bag for up to two months. Thaw in the refrigerator a day before then follow the reheating instructions above. 
  • Feel free to add or omit any of your favorite or not so favorite pizza toppings. This dish can be completely customized to your taste!
